Fatal Crash Investigation

FOLLOW UP INVESTIGATION

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate a crash that occurred on October 18, 2015 that injured Westfield residents Ian and Caleb Cartmel, and also left 17 year old Aaron Greathouse, a student at Seymour High School, dead at the scene. JCSD Sgt.Stan Darlage initially investigated that crash.

In March of 2016, Sheriff Michael Carothers assigned the case to Detective CSI Bob Lucas due to new information and evidence received. After a thorough investigation, the case has been submitted to the Jackson County Prosecutor for review. The prosecutor will determine if the evidence warrants any criminal charges.

Caleb P Cartmel 21 was driving his 2004 Nissan sedan west in the area of 2100 Block of East County Road 25 North. Ian Cartmel, a younger brother was a passenger. Aaron M Greathouse was 17 at the time and was driving a 1987 Nissan sedan eastbound when both vehicles struck head on.

Greathouse was driving to Seymour after leaving Brownstown visiting his girlfriend. The Cartmel’s were thought to be headed to the Lake & Forest Club near Brownstown to visit relatives.

The eight month investigation is on going.
